dbt Labs is a transformation workflow that enables fast, efficient collaboration between engineers and developers. Being a newer, yet rapidly growing, tech startup, they needed some help with their marketing materials. I supported their internal marketing team to design brochures, case studies, and digital ads showcasing their many talents, clients and virtual events.

dbt’s visual language straddles the line between technical and organic. They utilize basic shapes — squares, rectangles — but they give them all rounded corners and edges. They utilize a limited color palette, but one that’s made up of bold, high-contrast colors and gradients. While positioned as legitimate players in the tech space, they still needed their materials to convey that they were trailblazers who brought fresh perspectives and skills to the industry. Clean, editorial layouts juxtaposed with clever blob-like rectangular dividers helped communicate this.
